What type of shade can I use for privacy but still allow light in?
We get asked this question everyday! We know you want to maximize your light but you want something that gives your privacy when you want it, and if in a high sun situation, control that too! Am I right? No worries, we have products that can help with all of these scenarios.
The easy, quick answer is to consider light filtering solar shades, roller shades or sheer shadings.. Search for light filtering fabrics will let light in, help block uv rays and give you privacy when needed.
Light filtering levels vary for everyone. If you still want to be able to see through a light filtering shade, screen shades (aka solar shades) are the best option. There are also some options of dual shades which will allow a “see through” shade to operate on the same treatment as a privacy shade allowing you to operate them separately. Sheer draperies and roman shades may also be an option.
If you don’t need to see through the fabric, you have more options. Almost every shade has a light filtering option including woven shades, roman shades, roller shades, and more.
If protecting your floors and furnishings from the sun is important, you’ll want to use roller shades or solar shades with fabrics that offer UV protection. There are some blinds and shutters on the market that also offer protection against the sun with warranties against sun fading on the product itself.
It is important to note, over time, the sun will fade everything. I recommend, for windows that have direct West or South exposure, to lightly tint your windows. The small amount of tint that comes from the window manufacturer is not enough. Adding another layer of tint will help protect your window coverings for a small expense.
