How to know which window covering is right for your window?

Quick and easy checklist….

  • What do you need to accomplish with this window? Privacy? Block sun from fading? Block glare from TV? Decorative? All of the above?

  • How will I mount the shade on my window? Is there room for inside mount? Most shades today need at least 2.5” + and up to 5” depending on treatment.

  • If outside mount, where is the best place on the molding or above the window? Consider brackets need to sit flush on flat area.

  • Do you need Extreme Room Darkening? This will require additional light block channels or black out drapery. All shades have light gap on the sides.

  • Do you need this covering to provide insulation against cold/heat?

  • How do you want to control the window covering? Can you reach the top of the window if it’s cordless? Where will the cords be located?

  • Is there wiring in the window or a plug near the window for hardwire motorization? If not, where will the battery pack be located? Does my window shade company provide the motor on the right or left of the shade?

  • Do you want to integrate with home automation? Make sure the Automation company and your window covering provider talk to ensure the systems will work together properly.

  • If you want drapery or shades mounted more than 3” above your window, providing backing in the walls makes installation stronger.

As costs rise with textiles, window coverings are 20-30% more costly than they were just 3 year ago. Please be aware if you’re ordering online or doing installation yourself, to consider the depth of the headrails, the type and size of brackets being used, and to consider variances and tolerances in each shade style and manufacturer.
